The legendary "Demon Slayer" Zhong Kui, after defeating the Demon Queen Jiu Sha, should have perished from exhaustion, but instead, he traveled through time and arrived in Hong Kong a thousand years in the future!
He reunited with his immortal comrade-in-arms, the "Half-Immortal" Ge Hong, only to discover that the world had not enjoyed peace after their victory; the rapid development of the human world had led to an unprecedented proliferation of the eternal threat of demons.
In this new world where Taoist magic and advanced technology coexist, Zhong Kui must join forces with numerous elite modern demon slayers from the "Special Disaster Bureau" to once again wield his sword in battle.

Zhong Kui

A military jinshi of the early Tang dynasty, born under a once-in-a-millennium, utterly unique “Evil-Subduing” fate. Framed by treacherous men, he died in grief and rage — yet his soul-essence burned so brightly that Heaven decreed his return to the living world. Granted the Seven-Stars Spell-Sword and appointed True Lord, Slayer of Demons, he was given dominion over the subjugation of demons and the suppression of evil — the strongest demon-killer of legend.
In life, Zhong Kui walked alone. Only after taking up the burden of his demon-slaying mission did he meet the half-immortal Ge Hong; the two fought shoulder to shoulder for the safety of the human world, and became each other’s one and only true friend.
He is the only being who can wield the divine relic — the Seven-Stars Spell-Sword. At its swing, the body of any demon, in either the human or demon realms, is annihilated on the instant: a demon-slaying weapon without peer. Beyond this, Zhong Kui has subdued the Five Ghosts, each with its own supernatural ability, and may command them at will to fight at his side.
At the city of Chang’an, Zhong Kui and Ge Hong fought a desperate battle against the Empress of All Demons, Jiu Sha. After unleashing one final strike, his strength spent, he began to sink into the depths of the demon realm — about to be lost forever. At the very last moment, a fissure in space yawned open and swept him into another era. When he opened his eyes, he stood in Hong Kong, a thousand years later…
Ge Hong

Known by the sobriquet “Baopuzi” (Master of Embraced Simplicity): a genius Daoist sorcerer of the Eastern Jin era, a half-human, half-immortal who has cultivated for more than 1,700 years, possessing magical power and esoteric knowledge of the so-called “Heavenly Way” grade.
In the Tang dynasty he met Zhong Kui; together the two formed the strongest demon-slaying partnership of their age — and the closest of bosom friends.
After the campaign against Jiu Sha he continued his cultivation, and even passed the supreme trial of the Thunder-Tribulation — yet, for reasons he himself cannot fathom, he has never been able to shed his body and ascend to immortal-hood. He remains, deathless, marooned in the human world. A thousand years passed thus — and they passed in a great hollowness.
It was not until the mid-twentieth century that Ge Hong was discovered by the Special Disaster-response Agency, who took him on as Special Consultant. He aided in the development of the dedicated anti-demon arsenal known as the Anti-Demon Armament — and now serves as Chief Engineer of all the SDA’s combat technologies.
Though his arts are unsurpassed, Ge Hong’s power may not be used to kill directly, lest it transgress the Way of Heaven. Even so — purely through his vast repertoire of supportive sorceries — he can more than double the combat odds of any demon-slayer fighting at his side.
Jiu Sha

Originally named “Jiu Shan” (Nine-Virtues), she was a sacred, omen-bringing bird of ancient antiquity. Yearning for the mortal world, she transformed into a woman and fell in love with a human man — only to be seduced and abandoned. From that betrayal she swore revenge against the whole of humankind. She devoured the evil thoughts humanity gave rise to, swelling her spiritual power, until she evolved into the most cruel and twisted being in all the world: Jiu Sha — Empress of All Demons.
In the High Tang, the empire stood at its zenith — every nation paying tribute, exchange between peoples reaching unprecedented intensity. Human malice swelled in equal measure. Jiu Sha’s power grew vaster than anything before her, and she made ready to lead tens of thousands of demons in the conquest of the capital, Chang’an — to turn the human world itself into the demon realm.
The True Lord, Slayer of Demons, Zhong Kui, joined forces with the half-immortal Ge Hong on the order of Heaven, and at last brought Jiu Sha down. A single strike of the Seven-Stars Spell-Sword shattered her primal spirit into countless minute shards — yet they did not die. They lurked still, biding their time, ever seeking to infect humans and reassemble themselves. So a thousand years passed.
In the modern age, with the evolution of technology and the network, the shards of Jiu Sha’s primal spirit have found a new space in which to coalesce. The havoc they wreak upon the human world grows more ferocious by the day — and now even her true body inches toward its chance to reassemble and be reborn…
